A Day of Relaxation and Reflection

Thursday, 20, June 2024 — This has been the quietest day of the week, a respite before another busy day tomorrow. I spent most of the day in bed, relaxing and doing some coding on my system, fixing bugs, and improving some features on a site. In case I haven’t mentioned it before, the site is a project called Research Africa (researchafricapublications.com or researchafrica.pub). It’s one of my biggest projects over the last three years and something I plan to continue working on even after retirement. Feel free to check it out and share your thoughts; it’s dedicated to solving problems in Africa through making research of African origin digitised and globalised. I've started onboarding journals in Nigeria.
Throughout the day, I was thinking about various aspects of the site and working on improvements with my friend and mentor, Joseph. I owe him a lot of gratitude for his help so far. Although it may not seem like relaxing to some, for me, spending time on my laptop is a way to chill out. My wife, however, doesn’t quite see it that way.
The day flew by as I continued to relax. In the evening, we went out for a visit and took some photos. You can see one of them as the featured image in this post. We also watched a movie on Amazon Prime called “Father’s Love,” which I highly recommend. It’s about a couple dealing with infertility and the subsequent challenges they face.
Interestingly, while watching the movie, a solution to one of the problems I was working on came to me. I wanted to grab my laptop immediately, but my wife insisted I wait. I patiently held off and eventually figured out the solution later that night. Early the next morning, after everyone had gone to sleep, I was able to implement the fix.
Overall, it was a fun, leisurely day that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also managed to do some editing on the vlog I recorded the day before. It was a quiet day, a retreat of sorts, preparing me for the adventures and impact of the upcoming days.
Key Takeaways from Today
1. Importance of Relaxation: Taking time to relax is crucial. It allows your mind to unwind and can lead to unexpected solutions to problems.
2. Reflect and Retreat: Using downtime to reflect on tasks can be highly productive. Retreating from daily stressors provides a fresh perspective and can lead to better outcomes.
3. Value of Patience: Sometimes, waiting and not rushing into action can be beneficial. Solutions often come when you give them time to develop.
