Monday, June 24th, 2024 — The day started with a burst of energy, sparked by a weekend visitation that ignited some new ideas I urgently pursued. Although the idea itself wasn’t entirely new, sometimes we need a push to implement them. This moment was crucial for me to act because I needed something like it just as the conversation came. Perhaps there was a sense of readiness, combined with accumulated experience over the years.
So, what is this big idea? Well, I have a friend in London who I visit occasionally, and our conversations often generate interesting ideas on how to thrive, even in this foreign land. He shared a story about one of his friends who ventured into a similar opportunity, leveraging his academic background, much like mine. It all began with identifying skills and talents, recognising the potential to make an impact, and asking, "How do you get started?" The answer lay in teaching people and sharing knowledge, which aligns perfectly with my values of knowledge sharing and helping others realise their potential.
My friend’s story was inspiring. He told me how his acquaintance started from the church, distributing flyers on the streets and within the church community. Referrals kept coming, and things began to flourish, eventually landing him a very good job. He shared this friend’s contact, suggesting I have a conversation with him, which I did almost immediately. We scheduled a discussion for 8 p.m. that evening, and it was incredibly smooth and insightful. He shared valuable opportunities and ideas with me.
Next, I began drafting my message to promote our study idea. What is this idea? It is OA Tutors, a tutorial plan offering one-on-one private lessons in specialised subjects where I have expertise. I started assembling the ideas, and on Monday, I focused on establishing an online presence for it. I created a “coming soon” page for OA Tutors (tutor.olaarowolo.com) webpage -a subdomain under my main domain, olaarowolo.com, and began coding. That was my primary task for the day, interspersed with taking personal breaks from my PhD work.
Balancing different tasks is essential for maintaining mental sanity. It was fulfilling to see the progress, and I am hopeful that by Tuesday, I will have nearly completed the project.
That sums up my day. I hope you find something valuable in my experience. One key takeaway is the importance of acting immediately when you have an idea worth pursuing. Not every idea will come to fruition, but starting on the ones you deem worthwhile is crucial.
