Wednesday, 10th July 2024 — From 3 am restlessness to a manuscript by 7:30 am, today proved retreats are more than just meetings—they redefine success. Uncover how retreating can recalibrate your journey towards achievement.
I woke up and couldn’t sleep. All that occupied my mind was preparing a paper I had written for publication. This will be my first article published from my PhD, following numerous conferences. However, this time, perhaps due to yesterday’s writing retreat, I was fully committed to completing the task. I woke at 3am and continued until 7am, and by 7.30, the manuscript was ready. That’s the power of a retreat, particularly a writing retreat.
In my previous blog, I mentioned the magic that occurs when you step back from the front lines to re-strategise, discuss, and express ideas. There’s something transformative that happens within your mind, sparking creativity. This was a significant start for me today.
I arrived at the programme slightly late, though not excessively, enjoyed breakfast, and felt excited about accomplishing something meaningful in the early hours. During the event, I remained calm, listening more than speaking, and gained valuable insights when it was my turn to contribute. I learned a lot from others’ experiences. We all face challenges, and it’s only when we engage with others that we understand their impact and value. We are all unique; not everyone possesses an inherent drive to achieve. Finding the right environment and community of positive-minded individuals can sow seeds of growth in your heart, mind, and soul.
